FINTRAC Director Jeanne M. Flemming

Jeanne M. Flemming was appointed Director of FINTRAC on
March 3, 2008. Ms. Flemming has over thirty years experience in the Canadian government. In her most recent position, she was Assistant Secretary, Social and Cultural Sector, with the Treasury Board Secretariat.

Ms. Flemming has considerable experience in operations, having spent a dozen years with the Canada Revenue Agency. There she headed the Investigations Directorate and also the International Tax Directorate before being appointed Assistant Commissioner, Appeals Branch. With over 1,700 employees, the Appeals Branch provides an impartial avenue for taxpayers to resolve disputes over tax matters.

Ms. Flemming has also served as an Executive Assistant to a Federal Cabinet Minister and as special advisor to two Deputy Ministers. She has also held executive level positions with the Department of Indian and Northern Affairs.

As head of Canada's financial intelligence unit, Ms. Flemming represents Canada at the Egmont Group, an international association of financial intelligence units. She serves as Chair of the Training Working Committee, convenor of the Finance Reference Group and in June 2010 was selected to be the Egmont Group's Vice-Chair.

Ms. Flemming was educated at Mount Saint Vincent University, Halifax, Nova Scotia and has done post-graduate work in Psychology, Commercial Law and Financial Management and Accounting.
